Overview

Pronto by Inpromptu is a social app that helps friends make spontaneous plans through time-sensitive invitations called “beacons.” This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.

Information We Collect

Personal Information

Email address — for account creation and authentication
Username — chosen by you for your profile
Display name — optional display name for your profile
Profile photo — optional avatar image uploaded by you

Social Data

Friend connections — QR code-based friend relationships you establish
Beacon data — events you create including title, time, and location. Optionally including an image and a description.
Participation data — your responses to friends' beacons (attending/not attending)

Technical Data

Push notification tokens — to send you friend beacon notifications (if permission granted)
Device camera access — for scanning QR codes to add friends or to upload/capture images for a beacon
Device photo library access — to upload images
Location data — approximate location (IP address-based) for location search biasing when permission is not granted. We do not store precise GPS coordinates.
Authentication sessions — managed securely through industry-standard protocols

How We Use Your Information

Core functionality — Enable beacon creation, friend connections, and event coordination
Notifications — Send alerts when friends create beacons (only with your permission)
Account management — Authenticate and maintain your user session
Content moderation — Automatically screen beacon titles and descriptions to maintain community standards
Location services — Provide location search functionality when you create beacons
App improvement — Analyze usage patterns to improve the app experience

Data Storage and Security

All data is stored securely on cloud infrastructure with industry-standard encryption
Authentication is handled through industry-standard secure protocols
Profile images are stored with proper access controls
Session data is encrypted and automatically managed

We do not sell your personal data to advertisers or marketing companies. However, we use trusted third-party service providers to operate our app:

Location services — Google Places API to provide location search functionality
Content moderation — OpenAI services to automatically screen user-generated content for safety
Push notifications — Expo notification services to deliver friend beacon alerts
Future analytics — We may integrate analytics services to improve app performance and user experience

These service providers only receive the minimum data necessary to perform their specific functions and are contractually obligated to protect your data.

Visibility and Privacy Controls

Friend visibility only — Your beacons and profile are only visible to confirmed friends
No public profiles — Your information is never publicly searchable or visible

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location (US, EU, and other jurisdictions), you may have the following rights:

Access — View all data we have about you
Correction — Update your profile information anytime in-app
Deletion — Request account and data deletion by emailing support@inpromptu.org from your registered email address
Permissions — Revoke camera, location, or notification permissions through device settings
Report content — Flag inappropriate beacons for review by our support team
Data portability — Request a copy of your data in a portable format

Note: When you request account deletion, all your personal data including beacons, friendships, and profile information will be permanently removed from our active systems.

Permissions Required

Camera — For scanning friend QR codes and capturing beacon images (permission requested when needed)
Notifications — To receive friend beacon alerts (optional, can be disabled anytime)
Location — To improve location search results when creating beacons (optional). If not granted, we use approximate IP-based location for search biasing only.

Content Moderation and Safety

Automated screening — Beacon titles and descriptions are automatically checked for inappropriate content before posting
User reporting — You can report beacons that violate our community guidelines
Flagged content — Content that doesn't meet our standards must be edited before it can be posted
Review process — Reported content is reviewed by our support team and may result in content removal or account action

Data Retention

Active accounts — Data retained while you use the service
Expired beacons — Archived in our database but no longer visible to users
Inactive accounts — Data may be deleted after extended inactivity
Deleted accounts — Permanently removed from active systems within 30 days of deletion request

Age Requirements

You must be at least 17 years old to use Pronto by Inpromptu. We do not knowingly collect personal information from users under 17. If we discover that a user under 17 has provided personal information, we will promptly delete it. Parents or guardians who believe their child under 17 has provided us with information should contact us at support@inpromptu.org.

International Users

Pronto by Inpromptu is currently available in the United States and European Union. Your data may be processed and stored in servers located in these regions. By using our service, you consent to the transfer and processing of your data in accordance with this privacy policy and applicable data protection laws including GDPR (EU) and applicable US state privacy laws.
